

Instead of doing real work one morning this week, I was commissioned by my boss to write a blog post about the inventor of the zipper. Gideon Sundback did not really “invent” the zipper at all. Just improved an existing design and got a patent on it. He didn’t even name it.
Boss-man didn’t approve the blog post until the next day. Almost pointless to post, since the zipper google doodle was the day before… behind the trends as usual, business-that-i-work-for-somehow.
The most enjoyable part was putting a gold frame around this hunk! Thanks, Sweden. For Ikea, meatballs, and Gideon Sundback who was so sad that his wife died, he glued himself to his drafting table for the two years following and put more teeth-per-inches on the metal zipper prototype. WAY TO GO, PAL.
